INTERVIEW: Nick Santino

Not so much concern, more so excitement! It's always a little nerve racking but nothing too bad.

What does Big Skies reflect about you?

The songs on the album are full of stories about my life and different things I've gone through. It’s a very honest record.

Can you talk more about the songwriting and recording process of Big Skies?

Sure! I wrote all the songs myself. They all started as acoustic iPhone demos then turned into more full band sounding when I brought them into the studio. I recorded the album down in Phoenix, Arizona with my longtime friend and fellow musician Pat (Kirch, of The Maine). It was the first record he produced. We recorded it in the 8123 studio. We brought in some friends and talented musicians to play some of the parts on the album. The whole process was an incredible experience.

Who would you say is your biggest influence?

Definitely my parents!

What artists do you want to be featured on your album? And by the way, is there any new material we should expect soon?

I’m a huge fan of Tom Petty, so it would be cool to get him to sing something on a record! As far as new material goes - hopefully! I just put out my full length this year so I’m still touring on that for a bit, but I’m always writing new stuff.

Where are you happiest — on the stage or in the studio?

Little bit of both. It’s a good balance.

Looking back at your career, what would you have done differently?

Nothing. I don't regret anything I've done.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully still doing this music thing!

What releases do you recommend for people to listen to that came out this year? Which ones are your favorite?

The new Ryan Adams album is amazing! Definitely check that out if you haven’t already.

Final question, who is your favorite person to follow on twitter/instagram and why?

Dan Bilzerian is a good follow on Instagram. You'll have to see for yourself.

Is there anything you want to add?

Check out some tunes and maybe a show! Hopefully I'll head back to the UK soon! Thanks!
